The Fibonacci Sequence

The Fibonacci series is a mathematical sequence that many have called “nature’s numbering system.” It can be seen in nature in everything from the spiral formation of sea shells to the pattern of scales on pine cones. The Fibonacci sequence starts with 0 and 1, with every subsequent number being the sum of the previous two numbers (0,1,1,2,3,5,8,13,21,34,55,89…). Named after an Italian mathematician who lived during the Middle Ages, the series can also be shown graphically as a series of squares where each side of each square represents a Fibonacci number.
